"Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands." (Deuteronomy 8:2 NIV)
God purposefully lead His people into the wilderness for the purpose of proving Himself to them. He used this isolation to develop their confidence in Him as their God. To test what was really in their heart.
I have personally thought, and been told, that God uses isolation to grow you.
I know it seems like when I had no one but God to call on is when I did experience a deeper level in Him and more spiritual growth. However, I came across a quote yesterday that challenged that thought.
"We don't grow in isolation; we grow in community" ~ Pastor A.R. Bernard
Do you agree with this statement? If so, why or why not?
Refer to the scripture...do you think it was isolation or community that help build their faith and dependency on God?
Going forward lets use this devotional as a means of creating dialogue to help us really understand how to put God's teaching into action.
I'm depending on your participation to make this happen. Think about the questions asked in each devotional and hit reply and let me know your thoughts.
Lets not get caught up in the "tradition" of me typing and you reading. Your input is just as important as mine. Lets start going deeper with each other.
Lets pray...
"Father, reveal to me the purpose of isolation in my life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen"
