| | "I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.
Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be
disqualified."
~ 1 Corinthians 9:27 NLT |
| Some of the best coaches in sports are former players.
There is something to be said about someone who has conquered the same struggle you are currently facing.
Experience affords a level of credibility that mere talk cannot achieve.
If you have ever played any sport you know how critical it is to keep mind over matter. Those who can push their body further than it is willing to go are the ones who excel.
The ability to instruct your body in times of weakness is a level of discipline all champions are called to. Both physical and spiritual.
This "winner's mindset" can only be obtained through experience. Going through the trial and learning how to push towards victory.
Those who fail to do so forfeit their testimony and disqualify themselves from the prize.
Paul understood this and it is seen in his approach. He knew that his biggest enemy was his flesh. He knew that he would never complete the race if he allowed his flesh to dictate his actions.
God has called you to the same level of focus and discipline as Paul. God uses trials as spiritual exercise to build your muscles and endurance to finish the race.
So that once completed, you can stand confidently in the strength of the Lord that empowered you to do so. That when you reach back to help others they will experience the same strength of Christ.
God has qualified you to go through your circumstance. He has graced you to be able to endure it in its entirety.
He knows conquering your flesh is one of the greatest victories you will ever experience. A necessary feat for the credibility and effectiveness of your testimony.
Lets pray...
"Lord you are simply amazing. Everyday I strive to become more like you in conquering my flesh. You maintained complete control of your body which resulted in salvation for the entire world. As I mimic your wonderful ways, strengthen me to lord over my flesh. To deny it of any desire that goes against the mission you called me to. That I may stand as a valid witness before men to encourage them to keep pressing. In Jesus name I pray, Amen." |
