Hebrews 12:11 - For Your Good “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11 NIV)
by Chris
My 1-year old son ministered to me the other day.
I observed him playing with one of our plugin air fresheners.
At first he tapped it and looked at me to see if I was looking. Little did he know I was watching him through the reflection on my computer screen.
After the first tap, he got closer and held it for a little longer. Again, he backed up to see if I was watching.
Figuring the coast is clear, he sticks his finger down the top and touches the liquid. With excitement in his eyes he begins to put his newly dipped finger in his mouth.
As I was intervening for my child who would have foolishly hurt himself by ingesting this fragrance liquid, I couldn’t help but see the correlation between my parenting and Christ.
If I didn’t love my child maybe I would’ve let him harm himself. Maybe I would’ve just ignored him and never knew what he was doing.
But those we love we discipline. The slap on his hand he received from his actions was a sign of protection through love.
Same with God.
Friend, has God slapped your hand recently concerning somethings in your life you need to let go? If so, what was it and how did you receive the discipline?
It is important to take heed to God’s discipline immediately. It’s not just for your own protection through His love for you, but it is also to develop a righteousness in you.
To allow you to experience a peace in Christ that knowing you are loved and cared for can only provide.
Today take action on whatever area in your life God is dealing with you in. I know things may not look just right and you may have a lot of questions and doubts as of why things are the way they are.
Trust God, trust His plan, and accept His discipline.
It is to both hurt you (break you), and heal you (create a new you).
Lets pray...
“Father I accept your discipline in my life. I know through pain I will inherit my promise. Thank you for loving me so much to take the time to discipline me. I am the righteousness of God. In Jesus name I pray...Amen.”
