Luke 10:19 - Don't Give It Away “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” (Luke 10:19 NIV)
by Chris
Snakes simply cannot be trusted.
They are very intrusive reptiles and can be found in a lot of strange places. They climb trees, sliver through cracks and windows, hide under rocks or in shoes. If there is an opening a snake will find it.
Sound familiar?
Jesus was intentional in using snakes to illustrate His point in this scripture. He knows the parallels these serpents have with sin.
Sin, like snakes, slides into our lives through the smallest opening or flaw of character. Only to attack and try to kill the second it is realized and attempted to be eliminated.
But God has given us authority to trample over these serpents and not be subjected to their deadly ways. He has given us the power to simply say ‘No’ to sin.
The only way to forfeit this power is to give it away.
We give away our authority over sin every time we doubt God’s word, fall out of community with each other, lack in daily devotional time, and focus strictly on our needs.
These are holes and cracks that sin waits to form so it can infiltrate our lives. Most the times without us being aware of its presence.
But an upright life before God filled with prayer, devotion, faith and love for one another stomps sin dead.
It is like a steal toe boot to a snake. No matter the size of the snake it cannot penetrate the boot. This is how God intended us to use His authority.
Not to prevent all sin from entering our lives. But to give us the power to stomp it dead when it is realized.
Strap up your boots and walk in the authority of God today.
Lets pray...
“Lord thank you for giving us authority over all sin. Though we fall short daily you provide us with the ability to overcome any sin that has infiltrated our lives. Father I pray today that someone reading this will realize this authority and begin walking in it. That they will realize that the only control the devil has in our lives is what we give Him. I speak a snatching back of authority in the life of every man today. In Jesus name we pray...Amen”
