2 Samuel 11:1 - Wrong Place, Wrong Time

“And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.”(2 Samuel 11:1 KJV)

In my college days people would say things like “I got that underage drinking ticket because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.“

That’s not totally true.

They got the ticket because they were in the place that they wanted to be and were drinking which is what they wanted to be doing they just got caught.

They might have done this hundreds of times before but were never caught. So we fib to ourselves when this happens.

Have you ever heard or said to yourself, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time? When I was a full fledged porn addict I would say things like that, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and that’s what caused me to be tempted which led to watching pornography.

This was no different for David the king of Israel, when he encountered Bathsheba taking a bath as he was standing on his balcony one day.

Was this a case of him being in the wrong place at the wrong time?..

..partly yes, but if we look further into David’s life we will see that there was one minor thing that caused him to be there that day.

David was a leader of the troops and if you look at the last couple verses of Chapter 10, when they went to battle, David was leading them. David was always there fighting alongside the troops.

However, David stayed home for this battle and sent someone else in his place. Satan loves it when we do this kind of stuff.

As king’s and leaders when we make little small changes they can end up hurting us and the people around us. He was in the wrong place because he should have been with the troops.

We mess ourselves up when we are not where we are supposed to be.

Can we avoid beautiful women all the time no, but because David was caught off guard it led to sexual sin. This really messed up his whole family structure and led to even more sin.

Men when we step out of our place and purpose for where God wants us to be, Satan will be there with whatever devise necessary to through us off guard.

As leaders our obedience is not only to the church and ministry it is ultimately to God. When we obey His will for our lives we will stay in the places He wants us to be and we will find ourselves avoiding the traps Satan has for us.

Know that you are loved and that God has great things in store for you.

Lets pray…

“Father, today we come as men asking for your help to stay obedient to your designed plan for us. There are times where we do things our way and it causes hardship on us and the people around us, so first we ask for forgiveness and secondly we ask for your wisdom and guidance to lead us to focus daily on you and your will for our lives so we can be the Husbands, fathers and men of God that you have called us to be. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN!!!”
