Mark 9:28-29 - True Power

Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?” Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.” (Mark 9:28-29 NIV)

Prayer is powerful.

As believer’s there are some things that we cannot accomplish without a consistent prayer life.

The disciples walked with God daily. That means they were in close proximity of Him always. But it still wasn’t enough.

We are called to do more than just walk with Jesus. We are called to have relationship. Remain in constant communication with him.

That’s when we will experience the true power of the Holy Spirit move in our lives. We need to fast too.

I’ll admit, I’m not anywhere near where I would like to be in terms of fasting. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I fasted.

Partly because how it was taught to me. I was taught that fasting was an extreme withdrawal from food. While fasting can include that , it is not limited to it.

The power of prayer and fasting is prevalent in the life of Jesus. He prayed and fasted for days to gain the spiritual strength needed to complete the crucifixion.

When was the last time you fasted and from what?

Fasting is just as important to the Christian walk as prayer, and it can be accomplished in many different ways. Here are a few ways you can start fasting today:
  1. No sugar
  2. No social media
  3. No meat
  4. Liquid only
  5. Vegetables only
  6. No cellphone
  7. Organic foods only
  8. No computer
Can you think of any other ways we could fast? I would like to compile a list to send out to everybody for various ways to fast. So make sure you replay to this email with ways that you fast successfully.

Remember, fasting strengthens the spirit man by bringing the flesh into submission.

Today, start thinking of how you will incorporate fasting into your spiritual walk to experience true power over the flesh.

Lets pray...

“Father thank you for the power you have given us all through fasting and prayer. Help us to create a lifestyle of consistency around them. Father we want to perform great works in your name, and we know it begins with a consistent prayer and fasting lifestyle. Give us the heart and strength to deprive our flesh so our spirit man can rise. In Jesus name...Amen”
