2 Timothy 4:3 - Those Ears

“For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.” (2 Timothy 4:3 NLT)

by Chris

Lets just be honest...people don’t want God’s word.

Instead, they want His word to agree with how they feel or what they are doing. They’re fine with the preacher until the Word he preaches starts to challenge them. Convicting them in their current state.

Which normally results in them leaving a sound doctrine in pursuit of one that appeases their sin and doesn’t challenge them to change.

Since the body is so divided, we’re pretty much providing a landscape to promote and allow such behavior.

I just recently heard an interview with a homosexual pastor. Although he admitted there was no scripture in the bible that condoned his lifestyle; he still had thousands of people attending his church.

And the numbers are still growing to this day.

This was ridiculous to me at first until I remembered this scripture. It reminded me that...

People prefer comfort over conviction.

Brothers, I know the fight against sin can become tiring at times. But we must never throw up the white flag and give in to our own personal desires.

We must be lovers of His word and will, and not seekers of what makes us feel good.

I want to challenge you today to look deeper at yourself and your surroundings. Have you surrounded yourself with “Yes-men” that don’t challenge you to grow?

Are you comfortable at your church home but have not felt a strong conviction to change any area in your life lately?

If so, you may be scratching your itching ears, and I pray you make a change. Soon.

Lets pray...

“Father forgive us for choosing our desires over you will. Forsaking what is true to pursue what pleases our flesh. Lord you are the truth, the light, and the way. Help us to stand on your Word daily and be willing to correct our actions through conviction. Let us refrain from any lifestyle that is not pleasing in your sight. Lastly, Lord unify the body of Christ. Help pastors and ministers realize how much more kingdom business can be transacted on earth if we work together and set aside our differences. In Jesus name we pray...

Amen”
