Proverbs 27:2 - Ego "Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips." (Proverbs 27:2 NIV)
by Chris
To truly live a Christ filled life you need humility.
That can be really hard at times. Especially if you are very good at something that produces results.
For most people it's only natural to speak highly about the things they've accomplished in life.
Here's a quick tip...don't do it.
As men there are times where we may take it upon ourselves to stroke our own ego.
The competitive nature in us sometimes wants to put our "great works" on display for others to marvel at.
This can and will destroy the impact you have as a leader.
Jesus very rarely spoke about himself. He often times referenced the Father.
This showed his humility and ultimately allowed other people to speak high praises of Jesus Christ.
That's the effect we should all be striving for.
If someone were to speak highly about you today, what kind of words do you think they would use? Sometimes what seems like a great accomplishment to us is not perceived the same way by others.
However, the only way to truly know is to shut your mouth and let them speak.
When they do speak highly of you, try this for a response..."to God be the glory".
Lets pray...
"Father thank you for being such a great, earthly example for us to follow. You are the ultimate epitome of humility. Let our hearts be to strive for that same, Christ-like humility. Providing a chance to express your greatness in the light of our personal accomplishments. Teach us how to continually reflect the praises of man up to you God. We know that's where it belongs anyway. In Jesus name we pray. Amen."
