1 Kings 19:11-12 - Did You Hear That?

“The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

After years of walking with God, I can confidently say I have learned His voice in my life.

After I stopped expecting the clouds to part every time He was ready to give me instruction, I realized that God’s voice is often the smallest.

Small, gentle, audible, and always present.

Our circumstances, however, often seem to appear much louder in our lives. They scream for our undivided attention and invite the presence of fear and doubt into our mind.

If you listen to them long enough you may find yourself in a situation needing immediate deliverance instead of overcoming as Christ designed you to.

Have you ever gone through a trial that just seemed to silence out the voice of God? You know He’s given you a promise, but it’s hard to believe it in the face of your trial.

If so, join the club.

Hearing God’s voice in the midst of a thunderous trial is an absolute necessity in your walk with Christ. It is your only guarantee to victory.

But it’s not always easy to do.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve missed His voice many times in the past.

Sometimes it’s due to my circumstance, other times it’s due to my impatience and wanting what I want.

Brothers, we cannot afford to live our lives without continually searching and listening to the gentle voice of God. We must combat the voices of the world with the Word of God.

Meditate on the scriptures and create a consistent prayer life to provide God a means of constant, audible communication with us.

Society is filled with voices ready to declare direction in our lives. However, the direction we seek only comes from above.

Learn to hear His voice.

Lets pray…

“Father you are so good and gracious. Thank you for never being mute on behalf of our trials. Help us to hear you better Lord. Teach us how to silence the crowd and zero in on the gentle voice of God. Give us the discernment to know who to ignore in our lives. We claim no trial too great for you God. We commit to give a deaf ear to our trials in the midst of our storms, knowing they will pass. And when they do your gentle voice will always be ready to guide and instruct. Thank you Jesus! Amen ”
