Subject: Being honest with God

Daily encouragement for men of faith
“O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way?”

~Psalm 13:1 NLT
God knows what’s in your heart.

He also knows how you feel. Sometimes it’s best to just speak to Him what he already knows is on your heart.

This took me a while to understand because I always felt that I could not talk to God in that way out of respect.

Only sinners talk to God like that, is what I used to think.

Until I grew in my faith to know that God wants us to be honest. He wants us to express to him our times of doubt, fear, and worry.

However, there is a way you are supposed to go about it.

This Psalm of David is a perfect example. He starts off expressing how he just doesn’t feel that God has remembered his needs or situation.

In v.4 he goes as far as to demand an answer from God. This is a true petition from the heart of David to God. But David doesn’t end there.

Check out verses 5-6:

“But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.”

No matter how he felt, David always ends his plea with a statement of faith. He makes sure his last words are words of praise to the Father.

Being honest with God is okay. God will honor your honesty as long as you’re heart is right with him.

Just remember whatever you speak, that you finish it in faith.

It is faith that God responds to and will cause him to move on your behalf. We are truly blessed to serve a God that allows us to walk in honesty with him.

Lets pray…

“Lord thank you for welcoming my honesty. No matter what I’m going through or how I feel, I will make it a point to end every statement of honesty with faith. I know it is the most powerful gift I have at my disposal. And I will release praise from my mouth at the end of every honest statement. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”
