STUDIO UPDATES

Spring is fully swinging in our studios!

Read on to meet our student of the month, our newest MCMA faculty member (and the addition of music therapy services to MCMA!), learn about a wonderful benefit art show, register for one of our exciting summer camps, join Music Together at MCMA, read the latest faculty news and add important dates to your calendar.

As always, if you're interested in trying out a lesson to see if it's a good fit for you, please send us a message! We'd love to schedule an introductory lesson for you.

MEET OUR STUDENT OF THE MONTH!

Logan is an 11 year-old guitarist who has been studying with Amory since the Fall of 2022. He also worked previously with Joe Cough, beginning at just six years old. Amory has this to say about Logan:

"During the last months, I have seen Logan take his past experiences and skills and really start to bring everything together with time and continuity. That's a pretty glorious threshold to achieve for a student (and a teacher).

We started in the Fall working on our time-feel, and on expressing our musical ideas clearly. It didn’t take much solid metronome work for Logan to learn to slow his ideas down and play through them patiently. From there, rhythmically it all started to click. Currently, we’re working on power chords, left hand muting, rock solos and developing repertoire. Technique is coming along nicely and we’re just about ready to delve into some more subtle and intermediate material.

Logan has a level of seriousness and confidence with the instrument, as well as a curious ear, and enthusiasm to figure things out. Along with those important traits, he’s also nicely independent-minded and thinks about music all the time, not just at lessons or when he’s practicing. Those are the attributes for a long and successful relationship with music."

INTRODUCING DAN WENGER, MT-BC, LCAT

MUSIC THERAPY AT MCMA!

Join us in welcoming Dan Wenger to our team. Dan is a Board Certified Music Therapist who recently moved to the area. We're thrilled to welcome him to our musical family, and to be able to offer music therapy services to our community!

After completing his Master’s in music therapy and clinical internship at the Nordoff-Robbins Institute at NYU, Dan earned his Board Certification as a music therapist, followed by his license to practice creative arts psychotherapy. Dan has provided music therapy services in complex pediatric palliative care, nursing facilities, hospice care, special education, outpatient clinical, and in-home settings. In his most recent clinical work, Dan implemented relationship-based improvisational music therapy services at Imagine Academy with autistic youth ages 3-21 in Brooklyn, NY. Dan has training in the Analytical Music Therapy model via the program at Molloy University, which focuses on collaborative musical improvisation and verbally processing these experiences for deeper insight. He is excited and deeply grateful to have the opportunity to support the Midcoast community through music therapy services.

Join us next Wednesday, April 26th at the Craignair Gallery in Spruce Head for the opening reception of "Music Makers." Artist Katharine Cartwright's music-themed works comprise the show. Through her generosity, all profits from the sale of her work will benefit the work we do at MCMA.

The event is open to all, with student and alumni performances, fantastic food and drink, and the opportunity to support music education in the Midcoast. Click below to learn more!
