Hello, spring! Here at MCMA we are cherishing the new doses of sunlight -- and already busy preparing a bounty of musical opportunities for summer! Read on for information (and registration details) about summer camp offerings, Music Together® and Music Exploration spring sessions, meet our student of the month, consider lesson availability, and discover a faculty member's latest ear worm.

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION OPEN

Ready-set-summer! MCMA is offering three week-long camps, designed to catapult students to a new level of musical learning. Instruction is personalized, holistic, and geared towards being performance-ready. Registration is now open for the following:

  • BLUES INTENSIVE: July 8 - 12 (NABF July 14)

  • GIG CAMP: July 29 - Aug 2 (performances July 31 & Aug 2)

  • JAZZ INTENSIVE: Aug 12 - Aug 16

MUSIC TOGETHER® REGISTRATION OPEN

Join us this spring for Music Together® classes: The Triangle song collection! Starting in early April, we'll offer Mixed Age classes (for children 0-5 and the grown-ups who love them) on Wednesday (Belfast), Thursday (Rockport), and Friday (Rockport) mornings -- in addition to once-a-month Saturday classes at local libraries. MUSIC EXPLORATION REGISTRATION OPEN

Developed to foster curiosity, Music Exploration (ages 5-8) offers its students a discovery process of musical play, collaborative activities, and age-appropriate exposure to a variety of instruments. The spring session of Music Exploration will begin on April 10. Classes will be offered Wednesdays (at 4pm) and Thursdays (at 3pm). Space is limited. MEET OUR MARCH STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Abigail has been a student at MCMA since 2017, focusing on voice and guitar lessons. She’s currently studying voice with Mark Power. Mark has this to say about his student:


"Abby is one of the most pleasant students I have worked with – ever. She is an active learner and willing to take on and apply new concepts that resonate with her, even though she has been studying music for many years. Abby comes across as an open book; she is a teacher’s dream student! This does not mean she is unable to evaluate, analyze, and synthesize. Abby has a strong sense of what works. She is able to ask astute questions – and can easily articulate thoughts and feelings.


Additionally, she is very good at what she is doing. That is to say: focus, hard work, and dedication pays off! I’m confident that the general consensus here among MCMA teachers is that we look forward to Abby’s lesson every week!"

Ustad Noor Bakhsh: 78 year master of the benju from Balochistan (province of what is now known as Pakistan). His music encompasses the expressive power of improvisation and demonstrates common elements between music of east and west.
