 FEBRUARY 2025

 STUDIO NEWS

February is here... and with it, Valentine pick-me-ups and winter forecast plot twists. MCMA is making our way through this snowy month by celebrating the warm fuzzies our recent winter recital delivered -- and embracing the student learning and collaboration a new semester has launched. Day after day, we recognize the positivity that our musical community provides; we know brighter days and warmer temps are ahead... and, in the meantime, we are sustained by the creativity and connection of our MCMA family. Read on to discover the February Student of the Month, recital gratitude, spring ensemble registration information, an appreciative faculty farewell, a faculty playlist soundbite, and important upcoming dates.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Meet our February Student of the Month! Vivi has been studying guitar with Amory Raymond since September of 2022. Amory has this to say about his student:

"Vivi is small but mighty. She has loads of enthusiasm, a great work ethic, and a good ear. She’s been making consistent progress with increasingly difficult material. We recently took on a tune that I’d usually save for older students (“Song in my Head” by Madison Cunningham) – it incorporates open chords, fluid melodic riffs that reflect a fairly sophisticated composition, and includes advanced key changes and divergent sections. Not only did Vivi pick this ambitious tune, she also sang it and crushed it at the recital, presenting it with humble certainty.

Vivi is fun to hang out with; she riffs with me about daily absurdities and she enjoys a good chuckle. She’s always prepared; she always does the work. It’s going to be fun watching her come into her own as an independent musician; she’s poised to take it anywhere..."

WINTER RECITAL

THANK YOU!

MCMA is still feeling the positive ripple effects of our community coming together to celebrate musicianship and connection at our recent winter recital.

Our sincere gratitude to everyone who makes MCMA’s important work possible: our phenomenal faculty, our dedicated office manager Maddy Siletti, our above and beyond board of directors, our generous donors, The Strand for years of vital partnership, and most importantly, our inspiring students and the families that support their musical journeys.

THANK YOU, CHRIS!

We are sad to announce that our wonderful brass instructor and friend Chris Pert will be stepping away from teaching at MCMA for the time being to focus on the important work of family and preschool teaching. He will be sorely missed, and we hope to see him back again in the near future. Thank you. Chris, for your dedication to your students and sharing your wonderful music with us!

FACULTY PLAYLIST

This newsletter segment is meant to highlight the natural habits of MCMA's faculty as individuals who engage with music regularly (and passionately).

Here's this month's "soundbite" from MCMA instructor Tom Luther:

"My listening choice of the moment is the fabulous 4th album of Dr John, called The Sun Moon & Herbs (1971). It's a great example of how space within the arrangements allow the music to speak with much more clarity."
