McDowell Minutes
September 2021

"Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! ...Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases." (Psalm 115:1, 3)
Santiago Theological Seminary
  • Praise God for enabling Bruce to travel to Santiago for a week in September for the course taught on eschatology by Dr. Dave Harding from St. Petersburg, FL. The course was very well received and it was encouraging to be affirmed in our eternal hope. It was great to be back in the Dominican Republic after the COVID  restrictions over the past year and a half.
  • In August retired chair of practical theology at Westminster, Dr. Tim Witmer, taught a course on Pastoral Theology, based on his popular book on The Shepherd Leader.

  • As STS makes plans to start an undergraduate four year Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies (B.A.T.S.) program to start end of August 2022, we are looking for a campus. Bruce and Alvaro looked at several large houses, a school campus, and an empty lot. Our first choice is seen in pictures below. Pray for God's good provision and timing.
  • In September Bruce attended the Latin American Theological Educators symposium in Orlando, FL. It was a blessing for networking and learning, particularly more about the accreditation process with Association of Reformed Theological Seminaries (ARTS).

Family Update
  • We are happy that Kaleah has been able to start pre-K a couple of blocks from our house, as seen above on her first day. She is also getting special services for autism at home, school and on Zoom.
  • We continue to pray for the process to be completed towards Kaleah's adoption. Although her birth-mother has signed termination of parental rights, the court has yet to finalize it, after some months of delay. Oct. 21 is next court date, when we can begin official adoption process.
  • Mercredi is happy to be back on campus enrolled in his sophomore year at Haverford College.

Prayer Requests
  • Thank God for answering prayers regarding progress towards new developments with Santiago Theological Seminary (STS).

  • Pray for the recruitment and support of new administrative staff and faculty for the new year.

  • Pray for promotion and recruitment of students for the seminary.
  • Pray for a grant application for STS requesting support of our Dominican executive director to come through.
  • Pray for the right publishing house to be willing to publish Bruce's books.
  • Pray for patience and peace for Anne as she coordinates working with seven instructors helping our foster daughter Kaleah.
