McDowell Minutes
March 2023

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies--in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 4:10-11)

Santiago Theological Seminary
  • Praise God for the 80 students that took our counseling course in Jan/Feb taught by Chris Torchia.
  • Praise God for progress made in preparing for the start of our new GAP Year program for high school graduates this September. We have hired a young couple to be the resident directors, another young man to be the academic director, and someone to develop our GAP Year website.
  • Praise God for the partnership we have made with Third Millennium Ministries to include five of their courses in our GAP Year curriculum.
  • Pray for God's provision of the right place to locate our GAP Year. This is our urgent major concern presently.
  • Pray for recruitment of students to our programs, especially for the GAP Year.
  • Pray for God's provision of scholarships for our GAP Year students, which costs $5,000/year. This cost is a hardship for many families.
  • Pray for Pastor Eduardo Saladin teaching our next course in Christian counseling in April.
  • Pray for Chris Andino, completing his internship at Tenth Presbyterian Church this summer, as he prepares to join our faculty at Santiago Theological Seminary.
Dr. Richard Pratt is the president of Third Millennium Ministries, with whom STS is partnering. He is formerly professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary. Third Mill. has developed courses in Spanish ready for us to use for our GAP Year.
Family Update
  • We praise God for his blessings, including good health after bouts of sickness. Let us know how we can be praying for you!
  • Praise God for witnessing opportunities we have had with the Japanese student living with us now, including witnessing to her brother who was visiting. We also were able to witness to the last two Saudi women that were living with us.
  • Pray for the Lord to provide just the right house in a great location that is safe for our move to Santiago, Dominican Republic.
  • Upon moving we have decided upon the bilingual school in Santiago, Cepoint, for Kaleah that excels at working with children with special needs.
  • Pray for the Lord to give us wisdom about many details regarding our move, from what to fix or paint in our house to what to do with our possessions.

Prayer Requests & Answers
  • Continue to pray for our family as we make preparations for renting our house and moving to Santiago, DR. Some recent developments have made the date of our move uncertain, with a possible delay of a few months. Pray for the Lord to make things clear regarding the timing for our move.

  • Praise God for bringing into reality many of the necessary steps for beginning our GAP Year program.
  • Pray for God's leading regarding STS being part of a missions training program for missionaries from Latin America to the unengaged unreached peoples of the world. Some early stages of development towards this has begun.
  • Continue to pray for financial provision for our family's moving expenses to the Dominican Republic. This includes shipping our car and some personal items, purchasing major appliances, bedding, furniture, and airfare. PTL for his provision thus far for part of this need.
