McDowell Minutes
June 2023

“O LORD, you will ordain peace for us,
for you have indeed done for us all our works." Isaiah 26:12
"Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!" Psalm 115:1

Santiago Theological Seminary
  • Praise God for the 80 students that took our family counseling course in April from Eduardo Saladin. His course was very well received and culturally relevant.
  • Praise God we are prepared for starting the new GAP Year program in September, with a rented site in the mountains outside of Santiago. Pray for the recruitment of students, as we were not able to catch the students making college decisions in the fall since we didn't have everything in place yet.
  • Pray for our GAP Year academic coordinator, Julio Padilla, as he learns his new job and recruits students.
  • Pray for Dave Wiedis teaching our next course, on counseling and ethics, June 15-17.
  • Pray for the Lord's provision for a van to transport students in the GAP Year program.
  • Praise God Chris Andino will be commissioned as a missionary June 25 to join our faculty at Santiago Theological Seminary. After further training in Costa Rica, he will join us in January.
  • Pray for the publication and funding of a small book I have written on a defense of Scripture alone and prayer that we plan on distributing at our annual theology conference in September.
Family Update
  • We praise God we will again be grandparents! Brooke and Kevin Nearman will be having twins, a boy and a girl, in late September. We see God's provision in allowing us to still be in Philadelphia for this time.
  • Praise God for another opportunity to have a Japanese student living with us for the month of July. Pray for opportunity for witness and openness to the gospel.
  • Thanks be to God that we have largely gotten prepared to move by downsizing our household items and books, but still have some to do, including painting.
  • Pray for our teaching at our church's summer camp for three weeks, including teaching Spanish to the kids. Pray many kids would come to Christ.

Prayer Requests & Answers
  • Thank you for praying for the timing of our family move to Santiago, DR. Since Kaleah was accepted into a nut allergy desensitization program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, it seemed best to take advantage of that before moving. It means starting in July six months of regular visits to the hospital. So we plan on moving at the end of December.

  • Praise God for bringing into reality many of the necessary steps for beginning our GAP Year program, including a great location and directors. Continue to pray for the recruitment of students into the program.
  • Pray for Bruce's upcoming trips to Santiago: July 19-25 and September 21-26. Pray for divine appointments, effective use of his time, and ability to provide direction and encouragement to the ministry.
  • Praise God for his provision of over half of our needs towards our moving expenses to the DR. Pray for wisdom in changing our car to the right one for our use in the DR.
