McDowell Minutes
December 2021

"And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn." (Luke 2:7)
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich." (2 Corinthians 8:9)
Praise God for a very successful trip the first week of December to Santiago, DR. Pictured above is the seminary board meeting discussing plans for Santiago Theological Seminary (STS).
We are having a market research study done on starting our undergraduate seminary/college. Pray for many responses and wise direction from the results.
The Lord blessed Bruce's time in the Dominican Republic, as we were able to interview and hire five people for STS to start the new undergraduate program--three faculty and three administrative staff (one doing two roles). Pictured here on left is our new academic coordinator, Matias Casco, from Honduras.
Since we were able to raise support for Pastor Alvaro Rodriguez (pictured on right), he will start full-time with STS as executive director in April. In that role he will network and recruit students, promote the seminary on social media, oversee staff, teach and mentor.
Family Update
  • Kaleah (pictured above) is making good progress in pre-school with both behavior and learning letters and numbers.
  • Praise the Lord that the court finalized termination of parental rights so Kaleah's adoption can proceed. This past week we met with the DHS permanency counselor, with adoption to be finalized in some months.
  • Anne's father died quite quickly from pancreatic cancer in November. Anne was able to speak with him about the Lord and pray before he died, so she is at peace.
  • Pray for our family for safety in travels driving through SC and then FL, building relationships and visiting supporters and Anne's mother the last two weeks of December.
Prayer Requests
  • Thank God for answering prayers regarding progress toward new developments with Santiago Theological Seminary, particularly faculty for English, Spanish, and Bible. Among them is Dr. David Briones from Westminster Seminary teaching two NT courses in Fall 2022 during his sabbatical.

  • Praise the Lord for providing competent new administrative staff for the seminary. They will work on academic coordination, grading, and mentoring; website and social media development.

  • Pray for promotion and recruitment of students for the seminary, as our viability depends upon it. We are hiring help for our website and social media campaign.
  • Praise the Lord that a grant we applied for to partially support our STS executive director came through.
  • Pray for the Lord's direction regarding a campus for STS. There are multiple factors to consider before a decision can be reached.
  • Pray for provision of school student desks (@100), 2 lecterns, small refrigerator, water cooler, coffee maker, and small carpet for STS classrooms to ship to Santiago.
  • Pray for our witness to and openness to the gospel for an international student living with us until April. She is from Oman, one of the least reached people groups in the world.
  • Pray for God's provision of funding for translation of Bruce's book on baptism into Spanish, as there is interest from a publisher in Costa Rica. Also, pray for a major publisher looking at Bruce's manuscript on the Five Solas now, that they would decide to work with him.
