Subject: "just do what you love" (seriously???)

 Friend,

"Sakshi, just do what you love"

A senior gave me that advice early in my career.

Looking back I can tell you that's terrible advice...

And here's why.

Love is not enough.

It won't pay your bills.

It won't pay for your mother's hospital fees.

It won't pay for your son's school fees.

You need a career, not love.

And how do you choose your career?

Using what I call the "5 P framework"

Here’s how it works:

  • Passion :You’ve got to love what you do. That’s non-negotiable. But the real question is, does your passion fuel you? If yes, that’s your first green light.

  • Problem: Your passion needs to solve a problem. If it doesn’t, you’re only playing around with a hobby. The bigger the problem, the better.

  • Persona: Who exactly has this problem? You can’t help “everyone.” The more specific you get, the easier it becomes to connect with the right people.

  • Potential: Is there a hungry market out there? Are people searching for a solution? If yes, then you’ve hit gold—this is your potential.

  • Payment: And finally, will people pay to have their problems solved? If they’re not willing to open their wallets, it’s not a niche worth chasing.

So, here’s what you do:

Run your "potential career paths" through these 5Ps.

Be honest.

If it checks all the boxes, congratulations—

You’re on the path to your perfect career.

And if you’re still unsure,

I’ve got something for you...
