A Win for Michigan Right to Farm!

Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund is pleased to announce an important win on behalf of  Michigan Right-to-Farm and FTCLDF members, Cottonwood Farm/ Morningstar Ventures, LLC.  A lower court claimed that Webster Township could deny the farm its ability to farm its land.

In an ongoing legal battle, the Michigan Appellate Court ruled in favor of Morningstar Ventures, LLC that the case is entitled to a Right-to-Farm defense. The case is still ongoing.

New Policy Tracker!
View and Track Food and Farming Legislation in
Your State

FTCLDF has created a new State-by-State Policy Tracker spreadsheet, which will be updated by our staff in real time, so that you can be kept up-to-date on important food and farming legislation in your state.

We have also included in our Resources, a new Policy Primer, to help you get involved in introducing food policy legislation, and moving important legislation forward.

If you have a policy you would like us to help you get started in your state, it is helpful to gather interested people to begin working on new legislation. Then

Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund Endorses LOCAL Foods Act

Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) applauds Senators Peter Welch (D-VT), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Mike Lee (R-UT) for reintroducing the bipartisan Livestock Owned by Communities to Advance Local (LOCAL) Foods Act.

This legislation will permanently protect the rights of livestock farmers, consumers, custom processors, and itinerant slaughterers to practice and benefit from on-farm slaughter of livestock.

“The LOCAL Foods Act protects the rights of farmers to sell directly from their farm and the rights of consumers to access the foods of their choice from the source of their choice, achieving the kind of food freedom so many desire for themselves, their families, and their communities,” said Christine Dzujna, Farm-to-Consumer Defense Fund’s Policy Manager.
