We previously reached out to let you know about potential changes to raw milk legislation in Kansas.
The initial Senate Bill,
SB 346, has been amended and will be the subject of a hearing at 3:30 p.m. this Monday, March 7, 2022.
As it now reads, the amended SB 346 would require labeling on raw milk and raw milk products sold from the farm to be labeled as “raw” or “unpasteurized.” This is an improvement from stricter labeling requirements.
The bill still prohibits misleading advertising of raw milk or raw milk products. Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) will not be opposing the labeling or advertising requirements of the bill, as the edits have addressed our concerns.
The proposed legislation, however, would still permit the Secretary of Agriculture to declare raw milk “an imminent health hazard” and to take action. FTCLDF continues to believe that this provides the Secretary with too much discretion to find a health hazard.

Thank you.
