Dear Friend,
On February 26, 2020, the full Kansas Senate passed a bill that if it becomes law, will require raw milk producers to include a label on raw milk packaging that states that the product contains raw milk that is not pasteurized. Under the bill, advertising of the product must not be false or misleading and also shall state that the milk is raw or unpasteurized.
In light of the industry that wanted to prohibit sales of raw milk, or include much more onerous labeling, and limit advertising, this new bill is a real win for farmers, consumers, and FTCLDF. But it’s not over yet—at some point soon, this is going to move to the Kansas House of Representatives for approval by a majority vote.
We will notify you of these details as soon as we have them and ask that you take action this time by contacting your state representative. We may be contacting you on short notice, since the Kansas legislature has been providing the public very little notice throughout the steps of this process, so please keep an eye out for further communication.
I’d like to thank members from Jako Farm, Borntrager Dairy, Faye Farm, and FTCLDF Board member (and consumer member) Marti Secondine, along with our friends at the Kansas Justice Institute who have been working so hard on this issue. Great job! Thank you for all you do.
