Dear Friend,
It is time to act again, Kansas, and quickly. As we previously reported, on February 26, 2020, the full Kansas Senate passed a bill that if it becomes law, will require raw milk producers to include a label on raw milk packaging that states that the product contains raw milk that is not pasteurized. Under the bill, advertising of the product must not be false or misleading and also shall state that the milk is raw or unpasteurized.
Industry wanted to prohibit sales of raw milk, or include much more onerous labeling, and limit advertising. So, the version passed by the Senate is a win for farmers and consumers that worked hard on this bill. However, our work is not over.
Now Senate Bill (SB) 308 moves to the House Agriculture Committee. You did it in the KS Senate—now please contact your Kansas House Representative. Let him/her know that they should adopt the version of SB 308 passed by the Senate without changes.
We believe that this bill will be heard as early as next week by the House Agriculture Committee, so please contact your representative today! Contact your own representative, especially if your representative is on the Agriculture Committee as listed below.
Please see below for more details.
Thank you for all you do.
