My hubby and I went to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at the weekend.

We weren't disappointed. It's a fantastic movie! :D

Whether you're a fan or not, there are valuable marketing lessons to be learned from Star Wars...

The Force Awakens relaunched the franchise last year and became a massive hit.

But how could Rogue One possibly follow the return of old favourites such as Han, Chewie, Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2?

Sure there are a few cameos in Rogue One, but in the main all the characters are new ones...

So it was up to the mighty Star Wars marketing machine to get the fans excited to see it.

How did they do that?

1. They built excitement with trailers - just like the pre-launch videos you see with Internet Marketing

Over the years Star Wars has built up a huge fan base.

So who isn't going to at least watch the trailers?

They HAD to have the look and feel of the Star Wars universe to spark interest.

And they did... But then...

2. They announced that Darth Vader would be in the movie...

This sent the fans wild with excitement and Rogue One looks set to be a big hit.

Disney knew exactly what their fans wanted and they gave it to them.

You can copy this (on much smaller scale!) with your marketing.

You just need to build up a list of raving fans and then give them what they want.

Simples! :)
