Did you know that the first evidence of pillows dates back to 7000BC in Mesopotamia where stone slabs were used to support the neck...
Not very comfortable I'm sure you'll agree, but I guess they served their purpose... after a fashion!
Now I'm sure they flew off the shelves back then...
But not sure you'd have much luck selling them nowadays when there are so many lovely, soft and comfy pillows that are much more fit for purpose ;)
And it's the same with email marketing...
Back in the old days before mass email marketing and spam, marketers could probably bung out any old email and make sales...
But these days people are quite rightly more wary.
Although some 'churn and burn' marketers still fire off 14 emails a day, promoting everything under the sun...
They pay no attention to building a relationship or giving value and then wonder why their list is unresponsive or "ornery"...
Yes, I've actually seen a marketer refer to their list that way!
No wonder they aren't responsive!
That way of email marketing is dead.
It's no longer fit for purpose - if it ever was!
What you need to do is be a soft, comfy pillow that people return to time and time again.
Teach people stuff - give value without expecting anything in return.
Build a relationship.
Put their needs before yours.
And that will build superfans.
People who are loyal to you and buy all your products and recommendations.
But that's easier said than done, right?
