Vote Yes Tuesday, August 7! Genesee County Arts Education & Cultural Enrichment Millage
Thank you for being a supporter of Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium. Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 7, you will have the opportunity to vote on a millage that would provide free general admission to Sloan Museum and half price admission to Longway Planetarium for Genesee County residents, as well as other discounts across the Flint Cultural Center campus. The millage would also inject $500,000 in grant funds annually into arts and cultural organizations across the county.
We urge you to vote yes on this ballot initiative and support the sustainability and accessibility of arts and cultural organizations in our community. This millage would represent a county-wide investment in arts and culture as an economic driver, potentially resulting in increased property values and job growth for our region. We hope that this effort will enrich the lives of families around Flint and Genesee County by enabling them to fully participate in arts and cultural activities in the Flint Cultural Center.
We realize there has been some confusion about the funding for the new Flint Cultural Center Academy that is currently under construction on our campus. No millage money will be used to fund construction or operation of this charter school. The school will be charged fees for services provided by the various Flint Cultural Center organizations—the same as all of the other public, private, and charter schools that we serve throughout Genesee County. Funding to build Flint Cultural Center Academy comes from a grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation, and funding to operate the school comes from the standard per-pupil funding from the State of Michigan for any public school.
