SLOAN MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND LONGWAY PLANETARIUM RECEIVE $75,000 GRANT FROM FLINT KIDS FUND-Grant Supports STEM Education and Literacy for Flint Children-Flint, MI - Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium received a grant of $75,000 from the Flint Kids Fund of the Foundation for Flint to provide high-quality learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Literacy for Flint children. The grant funds will be used in the 2023-2024 program year.
"This generous grant from the Flint Kids Fund is essential for us to continue providing high-quality, hands-on programming to our young Flint learners," stated Laurie Bone, Chief Program Officer at Sloan and Longway. "These funds will help us buy supplies, staffing and educational programming throughout the year. We are extremely grateful for their support in our mutual goal of engaging our kids in learning while making it fun and interactive," Bone added.
The Education department at Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium provides hands-on STEM and Social Studies programming, workshops and camps to over 70,000 K-12 students annually within the two buildings, as well as throughout Genesee County Schools and libraries. Sloan Museum of Discovery is a hands-on science and history museum that was completely renovated and expanded in 2022. Longway Planetarium is Michigan's largest and most technologically-advanced planetarium offering full-dome shows and live, educational astronomy programming.
