It's not every day we get a call from ABC 20/20 requesting research on a salacious murder in Genesee County from the 1990s, but that's exactly what happened this past January. Sloan Museum Research Assistant, Michelle Burcar, said they requested archived news articles for a 20/20 episode entitled, "You Got Jail," which aired in February 2022. The episode re-visited the case of Sharee Miller, a Genesee County resident who plotted to kill her husband with a man she met on the internet in the 1990s. Miller is still in prison in Michigan. While most research requests aren't quite so scandalous, it points to the wide range of historical archives housed in the Sloan Research Room and in the lower level storage areas. We encourage you to visit our collections for any historical research needs. The research space contains access to the microfilm, newspaper clippings, and photo files of The Flint Journal; a reference library of nearly 1500 books; and directories of Flint and Genesee County reaching back into the 19th century.
The research room is located in the new Sloan Museum of Discovery on the main floor. It is currently open by appointment only on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Contact the research room at (810) 237-3413 to make an appointment.
