June Happenings at Sloan Museum of Discovery & Longway Planetarium
It's June, which means several exciting events will be taking place on the grounds of Sloan Museum, Longway Planetarium, and throughout the Flint Cultural Center campus. On June 8-9 the 57th Annual Flint Art Fair with 120 exhibitors takes place. June 15 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. is the Juneteenth Spotlight @ The Flint Cultural Center featuring live music, vendors and food trucks. And, on June 22-23, the 52nd Annual Sloan Museum Auto Fair will be in full swing with hundreds of classic and historic vehicles on display. Sloan will also host the first ever Pride Prom on June 8 and open up a new free community exhibit on June 25 featuring the evolution of emergency response in Genesee County. 52nd Sloan Museum Auto Fair June 22-23, 2024

Hundreds of show cars, antique tractors, and classic motorcycles will be on display during this historic annual car show and fundraiser. We will also have Make-and-Take model cars for the kids inside the Sloan museum and plenty of food vendors to keep you fueled up. 

Hours: Sat., June 22 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun., June 25, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
*Tickets: $10 for ages 12+; ages 11 and younger are free with an accompanying adult ticket. *Auto Fair tickets include admission to Sloan Museum.

Juneteenth at the Flint Cultural Center June 15, 2024

Juneteenth, also known as “Emancipation Day” or “Freedom Day,” commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. It was declared a national holiday in 2021. Sloan Museum, Longway Planetarium, and our Flint Cultural Center campus partners are proud to host The Spotlight @ Flint Cultural Center on June 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring live music by Flint's own Mama Sol, The Eclipse Band, and other live performers on stage. Pride Prom to Celebrate Love in all its Colors June 8

New Community Gallery Opens June 25 Featuring the History of Emergency Response in Genesee County

From Crisis to Care exhibition showcases the evolution of emergency response into the system we have now, from your first call to 911 to what happens in the emergency room and general treatment floors. The exhibit was a year-long collaborative project between Sloan Museum curatorial staff, Exhibit team members, and staff of Hurley Medical Center who generously provided artifacts and directed the story. Also partnering on the exhibit is Patriot Ambulance Service which provided artifacts, including a real ambulance that invites visitors inside. The exhibit will open June 25 in a section of the FUN Exhibition Gallery and will be free with general museum admission.

First Fridays Presents - "Sky Glow: An Artificial Affliction" on June 7

Cosmic Colors Premiered June 1 at Longway

This new educational and fun show kicked off June 1. Discover the many reasons for color—like why the sky is blue and Mars is red. Take a tour within a plant leaf and journey inside the human eye. Investigate x-rays by voyaging to a monstrous black hole and then back to your doctor's office. Legend of the Enchanted Reef Starts June 11

Join energetic Shorty, intelligent Indigo, and daring sawfish Jake on a colorful coral reef adventure. After a fishing trawler devastates their reef, the trio has no choice but to set out on a quest to find a new home. Their unforgettable journey brings them face-to-face with an octopus, dolphins, anglerfish, and other exotic creatures. Legend of the Enchanted Reef is filled with humor and imagination that the whole family will enjoy. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Premiering June 11 and running Tuesday-Sundays at 4 p.m.

June Sensory-friendly show: Cosmic Colors
June 8, 2024, 11 a.m.

During sensory-friendly shows (offered the 2nd Saturday of everyone month at 11 a.m.), we turn the lights up and turn the sound down to provide a safe, welcoming environment for our friends with special needs or anyone who prefers a less stimulating environment. Sensory-friendly shows will now feature open captioning for the hearing-impaired community. Be yourself and find the best spot in the house to enjoy the show! Doors open at 10:30 a.m.
