| | Traditional Flint Juneteenth Celebrations A celebration of liberation June 9-19, 2023!
|
| Juneteenth, also known as “Emancipation Day” or “Freedom Day,” commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021, Juneteenth was declared a National holiday - a day for African-Americans to honor their culture and history while also giving non-Black people an opportunity to learn about the day’s significance.
Our community has celebrated every year for the past 51 years! Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium are proud to host events on June 16 (supported, in part, by Bridge Michigan) as part of the many celebrations happening around Genesee County June 9-19, 2023. Check out all these amazing events celebrating the rich history and traditions of our Black communities below, or go to SloanLongway.org/Juneteenth for a schedule of events. |
