| | Traditional Flint Juneteenth Celebrations A celebration of liberation June 1-19, 2024!
|
| Juneteenth, also known as “Emancipation Day” or “Freedom Day,” commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021, Juneteenth was declared a National holiday - a day for African-Americans to honor their culture and history while also giving non-Black people an opportunity to learn more about the new holiday's significance. The official Juneteenth holiday this year falls on June 19, 2024; dozens of activities throughout Genesee County will be happening June 1-19, 2024, to celebrate.
Sloan Museum of Discovery, Longway Planetarium and our Flint Cultural Center campus neighbors are proud to host events on Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (supported, in part, by a grant from Bridging Michigan). Check out all these amazing events celebrating the rich history and traditions of Black communities below, including the Midwest Invitation Rodeo on June 7-8, or go to SloanLongway.org/Juneteenth for a full schedule of free events. |
