Here's a quick update on construction progress, fundraising, and upcoming events!

Thank you for your generous support of Sloan Museum of Discovery. We want to be sure to keep you updated on the progress of this exciting endeavor.

Groundbreaking

We held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 12, marking the official start of construction. We were honored to have a wonderful turnout for this event, with hundreds of community members in attendance.

Fundraising Update

We have raised $23.4 million towards our goal of $26.5 million.

We are making new connections every day and meeting more and more people in the community who are excited about Sloan Museum of Discovery. We are leveraging the Million Dollar Match to encourage folks to give. All donations received by December 31, 2019 will be matched 2 to 1 by the C.S. Mott Foundation.

Construction Progress

During July and August, most of the work done on the building was demolition. The new building will utilize floors, structural walls and ceiling joists of the old building, but almost everything else is being removed. All of the internal walls, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems have been removed. Holes have been knocked in the walls and front of the building for the new lobby and connections. Some of the trees (maple and locusts) had to be removed for construction, but wood from these trees was preserved in order to be incorporated into benches and other item in the new museum. During the Fall, steel work will begin and the new building should start to take shape.
