Tribute Car of General Motors' 50 Millionth Car, the Golden 1955 Chevrolet Chassis, at Sloan Museum of Discovery in Flint
Flint, MI – The Sloan Museum of Discovery will be the first in the country to showcase a one-of-a-kind reproduction of the golden 1955 Chevrolet chassis during the Flint Cultural Center's Holiday Walk on Tuesday December 5, 2023. The event is free.
The original General Motor's 50 Millionth Car, a Golden 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe, was produced on November 23, 1954, in Flint. After completion at Chevrolet Flint Assembly, the car paraded down Saginaw Street in what was the largest celebration ever held in Flint – The Golden Carnival. The original car was lost years ago, but a brand new tribute to this historic milestone is being built by Real Deal Steel, LLC, of Sanford, FL, Snodgrass Chevy Restoration of Melbourne, FL, and Steve Blades of Berry, KY. When completed, the car will include over 300 24K Gold plated parts and will feature an all-Golden chassis, drivetrain, body and interior. The tribute car is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
The special display during the Flint Cultural Center's 38th Annual Holiday Walk will showcase the Golden chassis and drivetrain, 24K Gold plated parts, a 50 Millionth Car memorabilia display and original body parts from the long-lost Golden 1955 Chevrolet Motorama car. 50 Millionth T-shirts and collectibles will be available for purchase. A panel of experts familiar with the original vehicle and the new tribute car will be on hand to answer questions. Flint, commonly referred to as The Vehicle City, is the birthplace of General Motors. The tribute to the Golden 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe allows visitors to revisit Flint's Golden era of automotive manufacturing. Entry to the Sloan Museum of Discovery and all Holiday Walk activities are free on Tuesday, December 5, 5-8 p.m.
