Today you will get a closer look at how to write a smart goal that was inspired by Paul J. Meyer, a businessman, author, and founder of Success Motivation International:

In order to compose your SMART goals you should be-

1.  Specific: In order to focus on you goal, it has to be clear and specific. For help when you’re thinking about how to create your SMART goal, Mindtools.com suggests you try to answer the five “W” questions…

  • What do I want to accomplish?

  • Why is this goal important?

  • Who is involved?

  • Where is it located?

  • Which resources or limits are involved?

2.  Measurable: How can you track your progress if you can’t measure your goals? When you can actually see how well you are tracking toward competing your goals, you will be motivated to keep going forward.

3.  Achievable: Is it realistic? Do you have a good chance to actually attain your goal? You want your goals to make you stretch and exercise your abilities yet it must possible that you can achieve those goals.

4.  Relevant: Your SMART goals should matter to YOU. Even though you will likely need support and even help in this process, you still want to maintain your control. You are in charge of meeting your goals, it is your responsibility.

5.  Time-bound: If you don’t have a target date to complete your goals, you will lose focus and eventually give up. By including this vital step, you can ensure that everyday tasks don’t overshadow your long term plans.
