Hey Friend,

That's what he said to me...

Okay, step back... What?

Here's the back story for all of you scratching your head saying "what the heck is Davey talking about?!?" And that would be all of you, btw, since I haven't told anyone else about this yet.

This past Thursday night I did something I've been meaning to do FOR YEARS.

I auditioned for a band.

The bass player contacted me through Bandmix(.com) looking for a vocalist - someone to front the band. Guitar playing was secondary, but a bonus as far as they were concerned.

Anyway, he reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in coming in to try out.

Now I haven't sung lead in f-o-r-e-v-e-r.

But they wanted me to learn a Loverboy and Green Day tune, so I thought, "I used to sing Loverboy tunes, and I like Green Day, so wth, I'm gonna take a chance."

I ran through the typical preparation. Listen to the songs. Print out lyric sheets. Practice singing the songs. Throw up from nerves...

Just kidding, I didn't practice. Ha!

So while I was working out correcting some of the lyrics I found online (it's funny how a singers diction and speech patterns can change how words sound), I needed to loop a few sections until I figured out what was being sung.

Song Surgeon to the rescue!

Yup, I was able to grab a section of the song and continue playing it over and over again until I was sure I had the correct lyrics. I even slowed it down a little in tempo 'til I was positive.

Go get your demo copy and try this stuff out for yourself. Take a song you'd like to learn and load it in Song Surgeon. Then test the tempo changing buttons and listen to those parts in the song that are giving you trouble.

Song Surgeon will allow you to catch the notes that were eluding you. You'll start building confidence in your ear and guitar playing ability. You're going to surprise yourself. I know I did.

Rock on!

Peace ~

Dave

P.S. - I didn't get the gig. But they said it was a close race between me and one other guy. I guess it's because the bass player thought I dressed funny. Still scratching my head over that one...
