Hey Friend,
We’ve been busy over at the Vance household getting the place back in order after Hurricane Irma took a swipe at us. That didn’t stop me from indulging a bit on some Beach Boys tunes. I had come across an article talking about the 40th anniversary of Pet Sounds (1966).
Of course, time flies as we well know and they’ve since done a 50th Anniversary release as well!
If you’re not familiar, this album gave us the classics "Wouldn’t It Be Nice," "God Only Knows" and "Sloop John B."
Anyhoo, I pulled up ye old Youtube and had a listen to the album in its entirety. Those pristine vocal harmonies get me every time!
There’s also a bunch of footage from the recording sessions with interesting commentary. I don’t know about you, but I really enjoy hearing about the creative process - I usually learn something every time I watch one of these clips.
It’s interesting to note that Pet Sounds had a huge influence on The Beatles and the recording of the Sgt. Pepper album. I think if you listen to them one after the other, you’ll definitely hear similarities.
Well, I’ve got to be makin’ meself presentable for another day at the office, so I’ll leave you with this...
I’ve put together a short questionnaire asking you to help direct what we cover next at Learn To Play Rock Guitar.
If you haven’t had the chance to take the survey yet, please do. It’s literally only two questions and a comment box (and you don’t even need to leave a comment if you don’t want to).
Thanks for your feedback.
Peace~
Dave
