Subject: When You're Blocked

Hey Friend,

Hope you're having a nice weekend. Just a quick note today as I've got to get rolling...

Creative block.

I'm all over the place today and can't seem to find the groove. Ever been there?

What do you do? For me, I picked up my guitar and just looked for a random chord or note combination that sounded cool. Once I found something that caught my ear, I went with it and started moving the chord up and own the neck .

I came across a little chord progression that alternated between an A chord and a G chord. I used two inversions of G major and sandwiched the A major chord between them. Before I knew it, I had a simple rhythm and started riffing using pentatonic scales. I also played around with a couple different chord forms for each - I tried an A7 and an Asus2. Both sounded interesting so I just bounced between the two.

All that said, I really should get in the habit of having my recording gear set up to capture these ideas. You never know when something will really flow...

It was a beautiful thing to be sitting here, stumped for today's message, and still have something musically creative come out.

Didn't help much with the writing, though, but I'll be back again to fight tomorrow.

Peace~
