Subject: What the H - E - Double - Hockey Sticks (L - L)…

Hey Friend,

Shit!!!

Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!

Rock and Roll just lost another American icon.

Mr. Tom Petty, gone at the age of 66. What the hell is going on?!?

I am sitting here, choked up and speechless.

Damn the Torpedoes had to be my favorite Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers album. Still remember cruising around as a high-schooler listening to “Refugee,” "Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Here Comes My Girl” and the one I most related to, “Even The Losers."

But “American Girl” was one of my favorites.  I always loved the ringing guitars in the intro, right before the bass comes in. That beat is infectious - you just have to dance.

Even in my first band we tried to channel Tom Petty with our version of “Breakdown.” Here’s a live example of how easily this tune turned into a jam song, perfect for live situations. Every one of us could take a minute to highlight our individual skills and then bring it all together again to wrap it up.

With this, on top of Las Vegas, what a suck week for news.

2017 has not been good for the Rock world. The partial list of musicians we’ve lost this year:

Walter Becker of Steely Dan (guitar)
Glen Campbell (you name it, singer, guitar)
Chester Bennington of Linkin Park (singer)
Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band (guitar)
Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave (singer)
Sib Hashian of Boston (drummer)
Chuck Berry
Al Jarreau (singer)
Geoff Nicholls of Black Sabbath (keyboard)
Butch Trucks of The Allman Brothers Band (drummer)

2016 was even worse when it stole from us:

David Bowie
Glenn Frey of the Eagles
Prince (you name it, singer, guitar, percussion, keyboards, etc.)
Keith Emerson of Emerson Lake and Palmer
George Michael of Wham!
Maurice White of Earth Wind and Fire (singer, drummer)
Pal Kantner (Jefferson Airplane - guitar)

All these musicians that have given so many of us the soundtrack for our lives.

No more, please! We all need a break from grief.

And Mr. Tom Petty, Rest In Peace, brother.

Peace~

Dave
