Subject: What Do You REALLY Need to Know?

Hey Friend,

Humans are strange animals.

We think we’re all evolved and superior to the rest of the animal kingdom, but we’re really no different than our furry friends.

We’re always in the hunt to satisfy primal needs. We easily get distracted, resist shedding behavioral patterns, prefer to stick to familiar locations and social groups.

Just like the beasties.

And yet we try to convince ourselves that we’re better.

The difference between us and animals is, we are aware of these similarities and we can choose to change them.

And so it goes with trying to learn something new.

We get interested in trying out karate, or archery, or underwater basket-weaving… or playing guitar.

How many times have you started learning about something, only to lose interest in it before you made any real progress? Maybe it wasn’t what you thought it was and you simply drop it. There are plenty of other bright, shiny objects that catch our eyes…

Or maybe you invest time and money to begin learning something and find out it’s not as easy as other people make it look.

In order to make change, you need to feel like you’re making progress. Otherwise, it gets really easy to let that new interest go.

Unfortunately, these are some of the scenarios many new guitar players find themselves in. And the biggest factor that causes “guitar under the bed” syndrome is the “harder than it looks” situation.

How do you fight the human tendency to drop out at the first sign of difficulty?

Little wins along the way.

In the new year, Learn To Play Rock Guitar is going to help you focus on getting these little wins. We’re going to learn the things you really need to know to be a functional guitar player. I’m not going to rush through topics simply to give you more content, which I have tended to do.

Instead, I’m going to more closely follow the approach I learned from my former guitar mentor, Tom Hess.

I’ll teach you the concept. Then we’ll work through the lesson. Then we’ll make sure you understand the lesson and practice it. Then we’ll integrate and apply it to playing real music.

No more drinking from the fire hose!

We’re going to develop skills you need, and hone those skills so you become the guitar player you want to be.

You’ve got today and tomorrow to come up with your guitar-playing goals for 2018. Are you going to take the time to actually figure out what kind of guitar player you’ll become in 2018?

I hope so.

I’ll give you hand tomorrow...

Peace~
