Subject: Week 9 Review

Hey Friend,

This was a weird week... a week of wake-up calls.

Not from a guitar standpoint, but from a life perspective.

It's been a long time since I was forced to work an extra day without compensation (after hours). Add on top of that an email from the boss demanding that we all give up time over two weekends in September. It's really easy to get complacent and forget the dark side of working for someone else, and I'm sure you know the feeling of being taken advantage of by your employer if you work a job.

The question is, where do we go with that feeling?

Do we just take it lying down as a unfortunate condition of "working for the man?" Or do we resolve to find something that puts us in more control of our future?

We're guitar players. We don't do it because someone else tells us what to do, or forces us to show up. We do it because WE need to play, and it gives us joy.

It's also something outside the norm. A very small percentage of the population plays guitar. That puts you in a special group - and a little cooler than everyone else.

Yeah, I'm biased - you're my tribe, and you Rock! You've got some edge to your personality, and might just be inclined to flip "the man" the bird. I dig that!

If you ever felt like telling "them" where to stick it... to "take this job and shove it..." You should probably look into freelancing opportunities.

You basically become a consultant to businesses in need. Because the Internet makes the world accessible to you, you can join websites that allow you to provide your services to clients anywhere.

You might think that you don't have any special skills that make you marketable, but you're wrong in that thinking. You can freelance doing just about anything today. There are many websites dedicated to connecting freelances and businesses that need work done.

One such website is Upwork.com. I've started working on some side jobs in the writing space, but there are tons of work opportunities. There's IT opportunities, creative jobs, administrative, legal, engineering, accounting, sales and more. Just click the browse button at the top of the page to see what kind of work you could do.

And you can make serious income here. Despite what you may have heard about freelancing opportunities, not every client is looking for the cheapest deal they can get. You can actually earn a decent living - on your own terms.

Don't see anything that fits your particular skill set? There are other sites out there; you just have to do a targeted search to find them.

This is just one way I'm working towards getting my freedom back and helping the unemployment rate - by making my job available to someone else. Then I'll have more time for guitar!

Here are the review files for the week covering the A minor chord.

Links for all the exercise files are in the PDF.

Have a great weekend...

Peace~
