Just in case you’re NOT "in the know,” Winter NAMM 2019 just finished up.
Twice a year, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) holds a trade event where music companies from all over the world debut their new products.
For those of us with G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), NAMM represents the opportunity to see all the cool stuff these companies are releasing this season.
So far, I’ve only been able to live the events vicariously through photos and videos, but seeing all the guitar candy keeps my motor running…
Depending on where you live (and if you’re qualified), Winter NAMM is held in Anaheim, California, and Summer NAMM happens in Nashville, Tennessee.
Unfortunately, these are not open to the public. You have to either be a music student or educator, or you have to be a buyer for a music store, studio or venue to get a general admission ticket.
However, there’s always a lot of photos/videos from these events. The folks at Sweetwater make sure to review many of the new products coming out and share them on their site for us.
An alternative to NAMM that IS open to us gear fanatics is Sweetwater’s annual GearFest. Sweetwater is in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and the next GearFest is in June, 2019. I haven’t been, but I know folks that have, and they've never been disappointed.
No, I don’t get paid anything by Sweetwater - I’m a customer and they’ve treated me well. Good prices, great customer support. And their online (and print) catalog give you plenty to drool over.
Anyway, if you’re in the market for a guitar, amp or pedal, now’s the time to research any new products being released. There might be sales on old stock/models, and you might be able to work out a deal.
