Hey Friend,
Just a quick diversion away from chords and arpeggios today…
Since most of us have spent at least a little time listening to The Beatles (and other British bands) over the years, I thought we’d pay some tribute to the amplifier that gave their sound the necessary volume to be heard over the screaming fans.
Tribute to an amp?
Yeah, well, there aren’t too many amplifier companies that can boast being around for 60 years!
Vox Amplification is celebrating their 60th anniversary this year, and in commemoration, releasing two re-issues:
The 1957 AC15/4 and the 1964 AC30/6.
Like many other brands, releasing faithful reproductions of historically defining equipment has become the big thing to do. Not that that’s a bad thing, though.
These amps are modeled to be the same (or better) as what you would have purchased when the device was originally produced. Since most of us are unlikely to find a vintage model in working condition at a price we could actually afford, re-releases give us options.
True, it’s going to be pricey. But no where near what a vintage working model goes for. Those are reserved for "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," baby!
There’s a very cool video detailing the anniversary production of these amplifiers. Take a look here - the video will only take a couple minutes to watch, but if you’re into gear at all, you’ll enjoy it.
If you’re just GOT to have one, Sweetwater has them for a cool $3000 ( AC15HW60) to $4000 ( AC30HW60) bucks. I like Sweetwater because their customer service is exceptional.
Pick up one of each - they’re small!
Peace~
Dave
