Hey Friend,
Yesterday I spoke about a manual way to tune your guitar strings using fourth intervals (aka “perfect fourths”).
An even more accurate way to tune is using harmonics.
Harmonics are overtones of a guitar string’s vibration.
When you pluck a string, the vibration creates sound waves. We can easily hear that sound wave, but it isn’t the only sound being produced - it just happens to be the lowest and strongest pitch, and that’s what our ears easily pick up on.
There are many, many incrementally shorter waves occurring at the same time as the primary wave.
These are the overtones.
We can use these overtones to tune a guitar string by lightly touching each string at a particular fret.
This is an advanced tuning method, and I don’t really have time right here to go into the “how to,” so here's a great instructional video on tuning with harmonics.
Last Day For the Survey
I’ve put together a short questionnaire asking you to help direct what we cover next at Learn To Play Rock Guitar.
Today is the last day to cast your vote! I’ll be tallying your answers tonight…
The suspense is terrible! I hope it will last.
If you haven’t had the chance to take the survey yet, please do. It’s literally only two questions and a comment box (and you don’t even need to leave a comment if you don’t want to).
Thanks for your feedback.
Peace~
Dave
