Subject: Try This Exercise on for Size

Hey Friend,

Sorry for the lateness of this...

How did you do figuring out the melody from your favorite song? Did you try "Ode To Joy" or "Stairway To Heaven?”

You can review the tabs for their melodies here.

Let’s get back to some core training to help you develop your guitar playing chops.

Play the C major scale in open position, then move up the neck to the next position and so on up until twelfth fret.

Say each note aloud as you play it.

Work from the sixth string to the first and back again. Here are the tabs for the exercise.

What does this do for you?
  • Trains your ears to recognize the major scale pattern, as well as key of C major (and A minor).
  • Exercises your fingers and develops muscle memory.
  • Stretches your fingers and promotes flexibility and dexterity.
  • Toughens fingertips when pressing/sliding up strings.
  • Helps you memorize fingerboard.
I don’t care how long you’ve been playing guitar - one minute or 30 years - this is a great exercise for everyone. Professional guitar players work through exercises like this every day just to warm up their fingers before a gig.

Talk to you soon.

Peace~

Dave
