Subject: Total Eclipse of the

Hey Friend,

Sun.

And you thought I was going to say ‘Heart,” didn’t you? Sorry Bonnie Tyler, you had your time in the limelight!

Happy Total Solar Eclipse Day!

Did you get your solar glasses? Yeah, me neither.

This isn’t my first rodeo. I have fuzzy memories of checking out an eclipse way back when. Based on the dates of the last total solar eclipses, I’m guessing this would have been 1970 or 1972.

We didn’t have no fancy solar glasses back then - we had to do it the old-fashioned way…

My dad made a screen with a pin prick through a sheet of paper. And that’s how I’ll do it today (unless someone at the office went out and spent money on glasses).

It’s true, I’m cheap, but you haven't met my wife!

For some reason I seem to remember looking at the eclipse through the pin hole back in the day, but the experts are all saying DON’T LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN.

Anyway, if you have the opportunity this afternoon, make sure you take a few minutes and check it out. Even if you’re not in the path to be in the shadow, it will still be worth looking at.

These eclipses are very rare. The last one happened in the States 26 years ago, so don’t let this one pass you by.

Here are some tips if you’re going to make a point of carving out time to view the eclipse.

And if you happen to have a Twitter account, you can watch it live. That may be my only option, since it looks like the forecast is calling for rain...

We’ll get back to guitar tomorrow - have a great day, and protect those eyes!

Peace~

Dave
