Hey Friend,
I made it back!
I have to say it was one of the better cruise experiences we’ve had, and it’s really hard coming back to “normal” life, but with jobs to do and bills to pay, such is life!
While on the ship, we befriended one of the musicians on board. Her name is Mary Simon, hailing from Toronto, Canada.
I had noticed in the daily schedule that she was playing in one of the clubs, and we had some time between activities, so we stopped in to watch her perform.
We liked her immediately - in person, her voice sounds a lot like Bonnie Raitt, strong, gritty and authentic.
It was just her, her trusty Larrivee acoustic and a microphone. She played a couple tunes at the piano as well, using nothing but her iPad to pick the next song to play.
One particular day, the bar as empty save for half a dozen people, so she called out to each of us and asked us to pick a song to play. I requested a John Denver tune, and she produced “Leaving on a Jet Plane”.
My wife asked for a couple artists, but Mary didn’t know any of their songs, so we got a raincheck on the dedication. Later, we were able to scroll through her list of songs and my wife picked out “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer.
But she played stuff from all over the board. There was Creedence Clearwater Revival, Johnny Cash, Carol King, Tom Petty and even some old country standards.
She’s got a Youtube channel as well, so if you are so inclined to check it out, please do.
It’s that time of day again. Back to reality and the j.o.b. I’ll be back with more tomorrow...
Peace~
Dave
