Hey Friend,
I didn’t forget about you - I’ve just been entertaining. My sister is here I’m trying to be a halfway decent host.
A pick seems like an insignificant component in your playing, but you’d be surprised at how often professional players will refer to the pick as one of the keys to their tone and sound.
It’s not the amp or guitar (although they do set the base for your tone) that makes the player, but the way they train their hands and fingers. The more I watch and analyze players as they play, the more I realize how the way they finger the notes and pluck or strum affects their overall sound.
I was surprised to watch how Alex Lifeson (of Rush) plays - how solid his fingering is, and how forceful he can be in his picking. Mastering technique builds confidence and to get the tones you have to commit to each note. You can’t be pensive and finger or pluck half-hearted.
Show that guitar who’s boss and make it bend to your will.
Alright, back to my guests… talk to you tomorrow.
Peace~
Dave
