Subject: The Last Friday of 2017

Hey Friend,

Happy Friday! This is the last Friday of 2017 - can you believe it?

I’ll be glad to see this one done. It’s been a tough year, and I’m mentally ready to turn 2018 into a real rocker. Lots of plans in the works, and some big goals.

At the top of the list is a revamp of Learn to Play Rock Guitar and giving you solid instruction. As part of that strategy, the videos I’ve threatened to create will become a reality.

I know they’re not going to be pretty in the beginning, but we have to start somewhere, right? I choose to focus on the content, not necessarily the quality.

I’m not going to PURPOSELY try to create crappy videos, but it’ll take some trial and error to get it right...

I’m also moving towards self-employment, and that will be the priority during the first half of 2018. That’s because I need to bury the j.o.b. and buy my life back. Once I replace the income, I’ll have a lot more time to help you!

I also plan to become more musically active with writing, recording and starting a band.

So what are your plans? What do you want out of 2018?

If you want some inspiration, take a look at this video from Reverb.com featuring Dweezil Zappa.

If you know anything about his dad Frank Zappa, you understand what I mean by inspiration. Frank was a master of guitar improvisation and regularly made a point of writing genre-defining music.

Do worry so much about the learning the techniques he’s showing - just listen to what he’s doing. You’ll start to get an inkling of the cool ideas you can explore as you learn more.

If you’re at all into Steve Vai, you get the idea. While he learned a lot from his guitar lessons with Joe Satriani, I would say working for Frank Zappa had as big an influence on Steve as Joe did. (Steve

Just listen to how Steve makes a guitar sing and coaxes amazingly odd sounds out of the guitar.

Cool, huh?

Hopefully you’ve been thinking about what you’re going to conquer in 2018. Let me know how I can help!

Peace~
