Subject: That's Where My Money Goes...

Hey Friend,

This week has been a blur. With family in town and all the activities, not to mention being the taxi service, the racing around has taken its toll. I'm running on fumes...

I'll be dropping the last of the family at the airport this afternoon. Then I'll try to settle into some relaxed mode for the weekend before I fly out Monday to start the new job. I'm not going to do any home improvement this weekend! And that brings us to...

Number 2...

10.    Less Offensive Visually
9.      More Mobile
8.      Less Tools Needed
7.      Less Physically Painful
6.      More Fun Socially
5.      More Impressive
4.      Sexier
3.      More Envy
2.      Less Expensive
1.      More Respect

As we wind down this list of why you should invest your time into learning guitar rather than spending it doing (and learning how to do) home improvement projects, we get to the money aspect. While I'm at it, think about the time commitment, too.

Doing home improvement projects is predicated by owning a home! If that isn't an expensive deal, I don't know what is.

When I was just out of high school, I worked with a guy who was newly married and buying his first home. I remember him saying that the house "nickel and dimes you to death." At every turn there's something you either want or need to change, fix or replace. Plus, every little thing you take for granted growing up is now something you need to have for your home to operate properly. That racks up a ton of expenses. Cha-ching!

Garbage cans. Cleaning rags. Garden hose. Cleaning products.

We don't think about any of these things growing up. But the first time you need one of these things when you live on your own, it becomes a pain point. A never-ending outlay of cash money...

We haven't even gotten to the home improvement part, yet!

So it's expensive to rent or own a home. Then your spouse gets a wild idea that the rooms all need painted. And then new fixtures in the bathrooms. And that kitchen counter won't do. And the carpeting stinks. And....

You get the picture.

When you have have your guitar, that's it. You're good to go. Sure, you could make modifications (more so to electrics rather than acoustics). You could also have G.A.S. - an affliction many of us rockers have.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome - when you've got to have the latest pedals, pickups and other musical accoutrements.

You know who you are, guitar "collectors!" I fall into that camp as well. And I've got expensive tastes. But if I could put the kind of money into guitars and equipment that I've put into the house, I'd have a killer studio! KILLER!

Whether I like it or not, I'm committed to this house for a while. After the kids have flown the coop, things might change, but we'll see.

Alright, more racing around to do. Got to go get the 'rents and go on a little art crawl before they hop on a plane and head north. Have a rockin' Friday and weekend!

Peace~
