Hey Friend,
You know what they say... if something seems too good to be true, it usually is...
Yesterday I got a voice mail from my "handler" (this is what I call recruiters) to call him back as soon as possible. I was in the middle of finishing up my expense report for the week, so I got everything entered and called him back.
He started with some small talk - was I cleaning the pool, had I done my expenses yet, did I to make sure to bill for mileage rather than gas cost? Smooth.
Then he got to the meat of the call.
He says the client has decided they don't have enough support call volume to justify keeping me on contract, so I'm done. Don't need to fly out Sunday, don't need to go back. Needless to say, my response was WTF!
I signed up for an eighteen month contract, turned down another opportunity to take this contract, and two weeks in, I'm out of work again. It just goes to show me (yet again) that it doesn't matter who it is, how great a company or the people who work there appear to be or what a contract says, there is no trusting a corporation. Faith in a job or company will only result in pain and heartache.
The words integrity, honesty and fairness are not found in the corporate dictionary. People do not matter, nor is the corporation accountable for how they treat people - because people don't matter. As long as the company squeezes what it needs out of people, people are necessary. When it is done with you, you are discarded like a banana peel.
Talk about spinning you around and pulling the rug out from underneath a guy!
Yeah, I'm mad as hell, because again, I let my guard down and trusted that I had found a place to get back on my feet. That what they said could be counted on. Clearly, The Beatles wrote the song "Fool On The Hill" about me...
I guess I'll be working out a new strategy over the next few days. Sorry for the rant - thanks for letting me get it off my chest.
Peace~
