Subject: Sometimes a Little “Hysteria" is Good

Hey Friend,

I’ve got another treat for you today. That is, if you like Def Leppard…

The opening riff for the song “Hysteria” (title song for the album “Hysteria”) is another fairly easy piece you can play using arpeggiated fingerings.

The album came out in 1987 as a follow up to Pyromania. It was four years in the making because this was the time during which drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in an auto accident.

The band chose to keep Allen on as drummer and stood by him as he recovered. He plays a customized drum kit that compensates for his missing left arm.

The intro/verse passage is sort of a hybrid piece - you’re not simply plucking from string to string. So there is a finger style feel to the way the riff comes together as you move back and forth between strings.

It looks like we’re working in the key of G major on this song, with heavy reliance on D chords throughout.

I’ll quit blabbering and let you get to the exercises. Here:

The tabs look a little different than what you’re accustomed to. I just upgraded the software and they moved things around enough that I’m still figuring out where all the settings are that I typically use! My apologies…

Have a great Friday!

Peace~
